Villagers in the Bhatinda region of Punjab. Bhatinda is primarily a cotton-growing area, with some of the highest rates of chemical pesticide use in India to combat against the American Bollworm. As a result, new studies show that rates of cancers, deformities, learning disabilities, and other disorders are higher than average in Bhatinda. This photo was taken outside the house of a woman dying of breast cancer. Her family is so in debt because of all the medical bills that they may be forced to leave their land.
